Albufeira, a very popular English tourist destination in Portugal

Today's post is a joint venture between André and myself. André wrote the original text in Portuguese and then I've translated it and also added a few notes and the photos for publishing. Hope you like it cause Albufeira is definitely a nice vacation spot :)

Synonym of beach, cool nights and diversion Albufeira is considered the English capital of tourism in Algarve. Once upon a time a calm fishermen village in the South of Portugal Albufeira is nowadays a full grown city full of life. Throughout the last decades the accommodation offers had multiplied several times and there are now available hundreds of hotels and rental apartments.

Late deals are often available for this wonderful location so do remember to check it out before booking - it's not unusual to get good rates in these promotions :)

With over thirty kilometers of coast Albufeira is well know for the quality beaches it has to offer. In 2011, the council had twenty beaches distinguished with the Blue Flag Award, a prize that stands for it's good quality. In all these beaches, besides the natural beauty it's also possible to enjoy a vast number of waters sports and other activities like water bikes and motor boats, canoing and also several water slides. Excursions to the local caves, diving, para-sailing and fishing expeditions are also available.

As to the night diversion there are two main spots. The first one, the most reputed one, is the Oura - internationally know as "The Strip". On the main avenue there are many bars and clubs where the fun starts early and only ends at dawn. The second spot, the downtown of Albufeira, is a bit more traditional. On the older streets of the village the Moorish architecture mixes itself with modern bars and restaurants. From a tourist point of view I'm sure it's at least a must visit place.

Also in the vicinity of Albufeira (a few minutes away by car) is the Zoomarine. A theme park that offers wildlife encounters, pools, many diversions and even a 4D cinema. Along the most successful animal presentations of the park the dolphins show is simply amazing. Finally a bit about the local food: seafood is the typical food in Algarve so I guess everyone should try it (it's very tasty). Nevertheless, the many restaurants in Albufeira offer many, many other options both in national and international cuisines so find good places to eat it's no problem there :)

Hotel or An Apartment Rental, which is More Economical?

For the first time Guest Posting with us, a big thanks to Baljinder for this economical reflexion about the choice of an Hotel versus an Apartment Rental when in vacations.

Vacations are a perfect way to shun the stress of daily life and work. Elders as well as children refresh and renew themselves by actively participating in outdoor activities, available in almost all holiday destinations.

As per a recent research, doing things bring more happiness than owning. So, if you can spare some time and money from your Whereas on one hand you can not put a price tag on vacation, but on the other, you can not indulge in extravagance during vacations, as you may end up paying huge debts afterwards. So you must look for ways to fit leisure time into the family budget, or else the results may be disastrous for you.

When summers are round the corner, people start making plans for their holidays. Their minds are full of turmoil, containing a lot of questions, like whether they should visit a beach or go to mountains, for spending summer vacations this year. They are caught in a fix if a hotel is good or a condo is more reasonable to stay while holidaying.

Condo vacations do make sense in every way. Below listed are a few points which indicate why condos are better and more economical out of the two options:

Get ample space in a condo - In a hotel room you would end up staying with two children in one room. This can really turn your vacations in a complete fiasco. While in a condominium you and you kids can enjoy separate rooms, which gives them more homey feeling as compared to a hotel room. Fully furnished apartment rentals are best suited for big families and for multi-family vacations.

It seems more pricey but not - Though an apartment rental will seem a bit costly while checking in, but we take into consideration its amenities, the overall stay is way cheaper then a hotel. You are provided with a kitchen in an apartment rental which has all the appliances.

Cook as you like - You can cook whatever yo like to, if you are staying in an apartment rental. You can always save money by bringing your own groceries and cooking at least two times in a day. You can save more money by cooking on your own than by ordering something from the hotel. Moreover, you won't be bothered by room service guys, time and again.

A furnished apartment rental or a condo is more economical indeed. But while checking out, you have to take care of things like taking out the trash, dispose the garbage and making pile of your laundry separately on your own. But in the end, you will enjoy that "at home" feeling the apartment provides to your family.

According to Sachin wherever you are in Australia there is always something to do, nevertheless there are some places in the country which stand out from the rest for their sheer mind-blowing attraction. Bellow, the seven sights that everyone must see in Australia.

The Opera House - an iconic building recognized all around the world although the inside of the Opera House is something known by a much smaller number of people. Nevertheless, the interior of the building is fantastic and watching a show seated inside explains why this building is so iconic. São Jorge Island, Azores, Portugal

Once again back to Portugal to continue with Nuno's Azores Islands Reviews. This time traveling to the middle of the Archipelago to the island of São Jorge (in English, Saint George Island).

You can find the São Jorge island in the central group of the Azores Archipelago's islands. With it's long shape that reminds the shell of an enormous sea monster, São Jorge is also known as the island of the "Fajãs" - enormous plain surfaces that enter through the sea (due to the fall of cliffs and correspondent land loss).

Between volcanic elevations, aligned one after the other, you will see an astonish green plateau, a paradise to those who like to walk through nature. Panoramic views over cattle fields separate with fences of wild orchid’s and heath are assured and also within the plateau's 45km the higher point of the island, with 1053m high Pico da Esperança is also considered the island geological center.

Besides the plateau views São Jorge also has to offer a Natural Forest Reservation with an inestimable botanic interest and endemic vegetation (from Pico do Areeiro to Pico das Caldeiras passing through Pico da Esperança and Pico do Carvão) and in the coastline the idyllic Fajãs and coastal settlements (see photo bellow).

Also from the coastline you may see a few of the other Azores islands like Pico, Faial and Graciosa. In sunny days you may also see Terceira, but only a shape.

All the green across the island's highlands and valleys along with the infinite combination of tones from it's sea and cliff landscapes makes of São Jorge a beautiful place. The quietness of the plateau fields where one can hear the fauna and listen the wild birds lends to the São Jorge's landscapes that old and almost primitive world atmosphere - absolutely unique.

From the Coast to the Mountains, Sydney, Australia

Once again back to Sachin with some more insights on Australian tourism options. From one end to the other, Sydney offers many diverse experiences!

Sydney is an amazing place to explore - with a vast array of scenery, a rich culture, and traditions evident from cultures all over the world. While coming and visiting the famous landmarks such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are a must, to really get the most out of your holiday, and make it more unique and memorable than ever, it is worth taking the time to explore from the south, right through to the mountains. So book yourself a serviced apartment in Sydney with a view, hire a car and take a look around!

The south to the east - Sydney residents are fortunate to have a home that is surrounded by beaches, national parks, city and exquisite mountain views. Entering the area from the south, you will have the opportunity to visit some of the most scenic coastal areas around. Driving from Wollongong, you pass amazing coastal rocky outlets, the serenity of the Royal National Park and take in the ocean views atop sheer cliff faces. Whatever the budget allows, the Caribbean Islands are a great place for a magnificent vacation. The various Islands represent beauty and freedom and provide a place to relax, where all visitors seem to leave the worries of the world behind them, while moving into a new and splendid adventure. Whether you love wearing sandals or going barefoot through the white sands with a gaze that wanders to look at the blue skies and billowing white clouds, you will feel that you are one step closer to heaven while on your vacation to the Caribbean.

There are many moments experienced on the Islands that vacationers just want to "breathe in" and somehow find a way to take those special moments back home with them. Whether you are taking pictures with your camera or in your mind’s eye, you will never quit viewing those scenes that spoke to you, "I must return here again one day."

Whether you approach this vacation in a mundane, practical manner, or you work your way through the details in a "dreamy" sort of way is truly up to you. The Atlantis Resort provides a variety of room prices and also allows visitors a vision of waterfalls and underground marine life. While in the Bahamas, you will see deep blue-green ocean waters and beautiful white sandy beaches merging into magnificent pine forests.

Cancun is referred to as the Caribbean Jewel and is one of Mexico’s greatest highlights. In Cancun, you will experience the Mayan Ruins of old or the extreme-modern of shopping malls and the Hotel Zone, a well-known nightlife district noted for its bars and nightclubs, as well as some of the best and most special music offered from around the world. Durness beach/Pease Bay - One of the main attractions often overlooked when thinking of Scotland as a family holiday destination are its wonderful beaches. Admittedly, you should not expect warm waters, but there are beautiful sandy stretches and wildlife to entertain kids on short walks and picnics. Of these, Durness beach, popularly referred to by locals as the ‘Secret Beach’ was bestowed as Britain’s most beautiful beach by The Guardian in 2009. Despite that, it remains a beach that few know about and even fewer are willing to tell you about. To get to there, head due east from Smoo Cave Hotel in eastern Durness until you reach the cliffs, and then follow them south to the beach. It's less than a mile. With toffee-coloured rocks and smooth desert-like sand, this beach provides a private beach experience (perfect for families) due to the secrecy surrounding its location. For those who prefer a more active beach experience, Pease Bay one of the most popular beaches. Its long sandy beach is ideal for chilling out and the people and atmosphere is usually top-notch.

Chanonry Point/Fort George - Chanonry Point is one of the most popular on-shore locations in Scotland for viewing Dolphins. And time for a good cause! The Snoopy Parade is currently being held in Lisbon, Portugal where it will stay till the next 15th of August. So far, twenty family sized Snoopys have literally invaded the city streets in order to help gathering funds for the UNICEF Schools in Africa Campaign.

The twenty Snoopy statues are about 2.6 meters high and were decorated by several Portuguese artists and public figures. Scattered here and there along two of the city avenues: the AV. Duque D'Avila and the Av. da Republica I present you, above and bellow, two of my personal favorites.

The blue one is work of the Humorist Nuno Markl and his wife Ana Galvão and the other green one was made by the Sapo.pt team.

If you're passing through Lisbon dont miss the chance to see them! After the street exhibit ends all the statues will be auctioned (reverting 100% of the funds for the UNICEF program) and then who knows were the cute Snoopys will go to... :)

According to old legends, the island now known as Aruba, supposedly adapted its name from “Oro Ruba,” meaning “red gold.” In the history of Aruba, over 3 million pounds of gold were produced. The remains of the Gold Mills make for a picturesque setting near the narrow canyon of rocks known as Frenchman’s Pass.

Aruban Churches - Chapel of Alto Vista built in 1750, is charming, yet dramatic. This place for peace and contemplation, sits above the sea with a picturesque setting. Originally built in 1776, the Santa Ana church is now famous for its solid oak, hand-carved altar, and an artistic accomplishment in the neo-gothic design.

And back with another of David's best off. This time for the top 5 of world's best ocean drives. Must confess David, I'm already tempted to go to England to try that Atlantic Highway - what a view!

Driving alongside the ocean with stunning views of both sea and land can be a pretty amazing experience. Taking in the beautiful natural surroundings from behind the wheel is a great way of seeing the gorgeous scenery and you can make stop-offs along the way to fully appreciate the sights.

Pacific Highway, Australia - Head to Australia and you'll have the chance to travel the 596-mile Pacific Highway between Brisbane and Sydney. Whichever city you decide to start from, you'll be able to take in fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean while you drive.

The Pacific Highway forms part of Australia's Highway One, a motorway that links most of the country's state capitals, and you will have the opportunity to stop by several busting towns and cities along this route. These include Newcastle, which is home to a heritage area featuring a number of fine Victorian terraced properties, and Port Macquarie, a popular spot for surfers.

If your route ends at Brisbane, make sure you take in sights such as the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and Roma Street Parkland, while if your trip concludes in Sydney you may want to see the city's iconic opera house.

Pacific Coast Highway, USA - Alternatively, why not visit southern California where you can travel the Pacific Coast Highway? This 123-mile stretch of road also encompasses great views of the Pacific Ocean and while it can be completed in a few hours, you should take your time to ensure you make the most of all the region has to offer.

From your starting point in Monterey, you'll travel through the Big Sur region before ending up in Morro Bay. Among the attractions you ought to stop by are Garrapata State Park, where you can head to the beach and spot sea otters splashing around, Bixby Bridge, the Little Sur River and Andrew Molera State Park. The designated All-American Road ends at Morro Rock, an extinct volcanic cone that is some 23 million years old.

Seward Highway, USA - Further north in Alaska, you'll be able to take in the Pacific Ocean from a very different perspective. By travelling the 127-mile Seward Highway, you'll see fjords and ice fields from your vehicle as opposed to the golden beaches of California.

Starting in Anchorage, the state's largest city, you'll get the chance to pass through Chugach State Park, Canyon Creek and Bird Creek, an ideal place for a spot of fishing, before coming to the harbour town of Seward.

Once you've arrived, you can go on a charter boat ride along the waterfront, before dining at a number of local restaurants that specialise in fresh seafood, all against the backdrop of the nearby Marathon Mountain, which is an impressive 921 metres tall.

Pirate Route, Jamaica - If you fancy going on an ocean road-trip in a slightly more exotic climate, Jamaica could be the place for you.

By driving along its so-called Pirate Route, you'll be afforded great views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as historic architecture. Starting from Port Royal, you'll travel clockwise along the A1 and A2 roads where you can see beached freighter ships and the remains of historic forts that protected the country from pirates hundreds of years ago.

At the end of the 380-mile trip, you'll arrive at Kingston, the Jamaican capital, where you can see the remains of a 19th-century jail and courthouse.

Atlantic Highway, England - A little closer to home, Devon and Cornwall can make for a great ocean drive. The section of the A39 road running from Barnstaple to Newquay is known as the Atlantic Highway, so you'll be able to see the Atlantic Ocean crashing on the shores as you drive from place to place.

One destination you should definitely stop by is Exmoor Zoo. Take the A399 and you'll be able to see a wide range of creatures including cheetahs, kangaroos and penguins. Head back in the car to Tintagel, which according to legend is the birthplace of the mythical King Arthur. Visit the popular Tintagel Castle and you may be able to learn more about the iconic figure.

With your 135-mile trip ending at Newquay, you'll be able to hit several beaches where you can go swimming, surfing or just top up your tan. Of course, you may be tempted to get back in your car and relive the delights of the Atlantic Highway all over again!

Sydney is generally considered one of the greatest cities in the world with good reason that is a really fun place. It's a very large city, friendly and hedonistic, with so many things to see and do, it really is a matter of trying to decide how to do all things you want to do. Apartments in Sydney are nothing less than fantastic, and the sheer luxury in living in one of the world's greatest cities is not to be missed.

Getting around Sydney and having fun - it's worth taking the time to plan your Sydney trip so you know how to find your own way around easily. If you base yourself in the city itself, you'll find that everything is very easily accessible and the public transport is cheap and reliable. If you'd like to hire a car, that’s extremely easy.

Don't plan too much, though. Sydney is a spontaneous sort of place, and the fun isn't usually organized. 5 Things to Pack For a Backpacking Adventure

If you’re planning a backpacking adventure for an extended period of time, the question of what to pack can dominate much of your planning in the weeks leading up to leaving! After all, how do you pack everything you’ll need for a trip that might well span Sydney hostels, London pubs and Canadian ski-fields all in one (relatively) little backpack? To try and help you out with the decisions, we’ve created a list of five of the most useful things you can pack for an extended backpacking adventure. It might not help with the culling, but as long as you have these things, you shouldn’t go too far wrong!

Comfortable Walking Shoes - If you realise you’ve packed a bunch of entirely inappropriate clothes, it’s easy enough to pick up some cheap threads at a local market, but good shoes are much more difficult (and expensive) to find if you realise the pair you brought are wrong. Make sure you pack a pair of shoes you know you can walk in for extended periods of time—it’s worth investing in a really good pair if it means they’ll prevent injuries or blisters!

Travel Towel—Big Size - If you’ve never heard of a travel towel, you’re in for a lesson! Travel towels are made of incredibly absorbent, quick-drying material (kind of like a chamois for your car windscreen) and are perfect for backpacking. However, to save on space, many people choose travel towels that are only about the size of a chamois, thinking that they’re being awfully clever. While these work perfectly well to dry you off, many hostels have bathrooms located a fair walk away from the bedrooms, so unless you want to bring all of your clothes into the (often wet) bathrooms with you, you’ll have to make the dash wrapped in whatever towel you’ve packed. Needless to say, your newfound roommates might find it highly amusing to watch you dash from your room to the bathrooms and back again wearing little more than a handkerchief! Invest in a travel towel for the fast-drying element—but make sure it’s one that covers your bits!

Repeat Prescriptions of Medication - If you’re on any form of medication, be it the birth-control pill or asthma medication or even antihistamines, bring backups. You might not be able to readily access it in some countries, so it is always better to be prepared!

A Smaller Rucksack — That Connects to Your Big One - A lot of backpacks these days come with smaller, detachable rucksacks or day-packs that connect to the front of them. Buy one of these, if possible. A day-pack is almost always necessary when you’re backpacking, but you don’t want to have to lug around two bags when going from place to place, which is why one that connects to your backpack is perfect.

Travel Insurance - One of the most important things you can take is your travel insurance policy. Buy a good one and then keep it close, having (of course) made copies of all your important policy numbers and contact numbers.

Today it's back to Paradise on Earth! This time by the hand of Sachin, to whom we thanks a lot for yet another nice guest post, it's time to get to know a bit more about the amazing Fiji Islands.

A Fiji holiday is as diverse as the people taking it. Mexico, a land in North America geographically, is culturally in Latin America. It is a unique country with far reaching borders, exceptional food, friendly people, ancient pyramids and modern cities. It has diverse weather and major resort cities.

Mexico is divided up into sections based upon geography. The Pacific coast is known for its beaches. Northern Mexico has craggy peaks and desolate deserts and is not frequented by tourists. Central Mexico is the home of Mexico City. The Yucatan Peninsula is famous for the rain forest, Mayan ruins and resorts on the Caribbean. Baijo is the center for silver mining.

Mexico’s cities are popular tourist destinations. Mexico City, 700 years old and the one of the largest cities in the world, has a multitude of attractions from Aztec remains, to colonial history and nightlife. Acapulco is a well-known beach resort. Taxco, originally a producer of silver, is widely recognized for creation of decorations made of silver. Cancun is known for its beaches on the Caribbean. Mazatlan is port for shipping and transportation plus a resort for Spring break because of its inexpensive accommodations. These are a few of the many Mexican cities popular for holidays.

Besides the popular Mexican cities, Mexico has many other distinctive attractions. Visit the Sea of Cortez to witness births of whales and to swim with dolphins. Paddle a sea kayak and enjoy the sunsets at Puerto Pensacola. Travel to the Copper Canyon and ride the mountain railway - the CHEPE- up 8000 feet. While in the area, ride horses and watch birds. The area in the Sierra Madre and Chihuahuan desert is for rugged individuals who can expect intense travel conditions. Cruise the Rio Grivalva in Sumidero Canyon to the National Park to view wild life such as flamingos and crocodiles. Observe the monarch butterflies at Monarch Butterfly Breeding Sites in the uplands if Michoacan, especially from November until March.

Tourists interested in history and archeology will find many such sites in Mexico. Ek Balam has recreated Mayan sites with ornamented stucco and temples with engraved stone. The Mayan city, Chichen Itza, is named a UNESCO World Heritage location. Monte Alban, in Oaxaca, is a Zapotec spot over 2000 years old. Teotihuacan, close to Mexico City, is renowned for its pyramids.

Mexico’s cooking is diverse as it represents the regions. Its cuisine is divided by its regions and difference in ethnic groups. In northern Mexico, the meals are mostly the meat dishes of goat and beef. The central area’s foods are corn with various spices including Carnitas and Pozole. The Coastal cooking is mostly fish and seafood as well as corn recipes. Southeastern Mexico’s food is influenced by the Caribbean culture. Individual towns have their own special dishes such as the tamales of the south are made with leaves from the banana plant.

Accommodations in Mexico vary though chains of hotels such as Best Western, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Fairmont, and Palace Resorts, to name a few are located across Mexico Rates are more quite good in comparison to American or European chains. The rooms in these chains are acceptable for tourists, but not like the atmosphere found in traditional Mexican hotels. Those wanting to experience this should consider boutique hotels, which are steeped, in Mexican tradition throughout the country.

For travelers wanting to make purchases in Mexico, keep the following information in mind. Items in Mexico are measured in kilograms; length is measured in centimeters. Clothing comes in Continental measurements. Mexican currency is the peso that is divided into centavos. Good buys in Mexico are original local art- created in the manner of the old world including woodcarvings, textiles, and carved masks.

Mexico offers visitors many opportunities to observe and partake in the diversity of its culture, its foods, its history, its resorts, natural parks and daily life.
